Obituary of Ageliki Thrapsimis

Ageliki "Angie" Thrapsimis entered into rest on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Born November 8, 1964, Ageliki was the beloved wife of Nicholaos, a loving mother to her children Ereni (Anastasios) Polydefkis, Athanasia Thrapsimis and Konstantinos Thrapsimis. She was a cherished grandmother to Themistocles and Nicoletta Polydefkis. She was an adored sister to Theodora Argyros and her late brother Athanasios Vlahos. Also, the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Angie Thrapsimis has been committed to dedicating her life in creating positive, enriching learning environments for young people of all ages. Providing students with a solid educational foundation where they can meet and exceed their potential.
Angie returned to her beloved Greek Orthodox Church Zoodohos Peghe and the Greek American Institute K-8 School where she was the 4th grade teacher, Elementary School Coordinator, and Principal appointed “Mentor Teacher”. Using innovative methods, she allowed each child to achieve their utmost in potential. Because of her diligence and dedication, she helped make G.A.I a leading force in the Bronx. It is her heartfelt belief that given the opportunity each child holds promise. While there, she was awarded the Adolfo Carrion Jr. Citation of Merit Award for Educational Excellence; and two time Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.

Currently, as the Academic Advisor for the School of Liberal Arts at Manhattan College, Angie works with students to help them develop academic, career, personal and life goals, and create a clear path to achieve them. She has served on prestigious committees at Manhattan College that include the Senate; Board of Trustees Committee on Student Life; Middle States Accreditation Working Group, and has been honored with the Distinguished Lasallian Staff Member Award, inducted to Pen and Sword Honor Society; KDP Honor Society for Education; and is a member of NACAADA National Academic Advisor Association. She was also an adjunct professor for the School of Education and Health for two semesters.

Angie was born, raised, and educated in the Bronx. Through Opportunity Programs, she was able to attend Fordham University and Manhattan College, where she earned her B.A in Secondary Education & Spanish and Greek; M.A. in Counseling; and M.S. Ed in Childhood Education & Special Education. She also attended the Lasallian Social Justice Institute – Civil Rights.

She participated in social justice immersion programs which provide opportunities for students to learn about justice issues in the communities that are most impacted by them. Two years in a row, Angie was the moderator and advisor for a group of students and spent ten days on the Blackfeet Indian reservation in Montana working directly with the DLS middle school and with the Blackfeet community. She participated a third year by working with young people with multiple illnesses which included renal disease at Camp Reynal at Camp John Marc in Texas.
Some of Angie’s community volunteer involvement includes Kingsbridge Little League Girls’ Softball coach; Facilitator for non-English speaking elderly; and test prep tutor to benefit students with NYS Exams, HS Exams; and College Entrance Exams.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Zoodohos Peghe Greek Orthodox, 3573 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY 10461 from 9am to 11am..

Funeral Service will follow at Zoodohos Peghe Greek Orthodox, 3573 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY 10461 from 11am to 12pm..

Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 50 Jackson Ave, Hastings on Hudson, NY 10706.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the church, Zoodohos Peghe Greek Orthodox, 3573 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY 10461.
