VICTORIA P. APOSTLE

February 27, 1939 – August 6, 2026

Victoria Apostle was born in Manhattan to Theodore and Catherine Tseas.  When Victoria’s mother passed, she was raised by her father and big sister, Helen, with help from her Aunt Theodora .

Victoria graduated from George Washington High School and Hunter College in New York. She attended St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church and was married there to Basil Apostle, who was in the army. He was assigned to Germany, and they lived there for several years, during which time she learned German.  She would travel to Greece when Basil was occupied with maneuvers. There, she would bicycle around the town of Katerini and would come up upon and startle the little old ladies who were surprised that a young woman would ride a bicycle.

She was a social worker in New York City for a short time and then became a corporate real estate closer; one of her biggest jobs was insuring the Twin Towers in New York City.

Victoria and Basil went their separate ways after 25 years of marriage but continued on affable terms.

Victoria had many and wide-ranging interests:

•    She enjoyed fine dining, good food and wine, and she joined a gourmet club, which met monthly at prestigious restaurants. She also enjoyed theater and opera.

•    She was an avid traveler, visiting places such as Greece, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, India, France, Germany, Brazil, China, and Africa. In Japan, she studied kyudo. (Japanese archery).

•    She was an artist, working mainly in pencil, watercolor, acrylic, and pastels. She participated in watercolor and pastel workshops in Italy and France.

•    She was also a collector of art, including paintings, pottery, glass sculpture, and Native American jewelry.

•    She was a casual shooter and completed several steps of the marksmanship qualification program for pistol.

Shopping with her niece Cathie was a favorite activity.  From clothes to shoes, pocketbooks, and jewelry, they both loved “glitz.” They would laugh at some of the crazy things, especially when they tried them on and looked in the mirror.

She enjoyed visiting the Pacific Northwest, where she backpacked to Colchuck Lake in the Enchantments area of the Cascade Mountains with her nephew and his wife.  She also did shorter hikes in the Cascades and Southeast Washington State.

She made sure that her sister, Helen, had a live-in caretaker, and found two wonderful women, Maria (Tamar Sadagishvili) and Ia Kandelaki, both from Georgia.

She loved her goddaughter, Elena Caffentzis and Elena’s children, Riley and Josie; her cousin Helen Churko, “the twins”, Stephen and Joseph Bouhadana; her niece, Cathie Certa; her nephew, Paul Certa and his wife, Leela Sasaki; and of course, her sister, her “Boubie,” Helen.

She loved her friends (including Nancy Yeates, Kathy Caffentzis, Peg O’Brien, and Maria Apostle), who shared their love, friendship, and support with her.

Victoria recently went back to the church and was so happy. She was doing a lot of research on church doctrine and truly found peace and happiness.

Victoria was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Catherine Tseas and by her infant son Marc. 

She is survived by her sister, Helen Certa; niece, Catherine Certa; nephew, Paul Certa (Leela Sasaki); and many cousins and friends.
